Date: September 27, 2026 Location: Times Square, New York City Format: Full-day rotation on a monumental digital screen Curator: Anna Gvozdeva
In a place built to be noticed, the quietest thing on the square was a painting.
On September 27, Visual Art Journal presented its twenty-sixth Times Square Billboard Showcase, curated by Anna Gvozdeva. Paintings, photographs and digital works by artists from around the world took over a screen high above Broadway and Seventh Avenue, returning again and again through the day as the crowds, taxis and street performers below carried on at full volume.

A selection made for the street
Choosing work for Times Square is different from hanging a room. A painting here has no frame of silence around it, no neighbour on the wall to talk to, only the city pressing in from every side. For this edition, Anna Gvozdeva looked for images with a clear centre of gravity: works that read in an instant from the pavement yet keep giving to anyone who stops long enough to watch the rotation come round again. On the day, that is exactly what they did.
