Format: Full-day rotation on a monumental digital screen
For one day, the screen that usually sells something showed nothing for sale.
On September 6, Visual Art Journal held its twenty-fifth Times Square Billboard Showcase. Paintings, photographs and digital works by artists from more than a dozen countries appeared several storeys above the pavement, cycling through the day while the intersection below did what it always does.

What the format gives an artist
Times Square is not a gallery, and that is the point. There is no wall text, no queue, no invitation list. The audience is whoever happens to look up – tourists, commuters, people waiting for someone. An image either holds that half-second of attention or it does not. Every work in this showcase held it.
