The Names Gallery in Madrid – September 28-29

On September 28-29, Captaloona Art Gallery in Madrid hosted a new exhibition organized by The Names Gallery and curated by Anna Gvozdeva. Over two days, the gallery became a space where artists from many countries, generations and backgrounds shared one room and spoke in very different visual languages.

The project made no attempt to reduce contemporary art to a single trend or school. Instead, it treated difference as its guiding principle. Painting stood alongside photography and digital work, abstraction alongside figuration, and intuitive gestures alongside conceptual ones. The subjects were just as varied: personal identity and memory, inner psychological states, landscape and place, cultural roots, the influence of technology, and open-ended experiments with form and image.

What made the exhibition compelling was the dialogue between these contrasts. Works that might seem unrelated in isolation began to answer one another, revealing how individual experience and cultural context shape the way artists see the world today. The Madrid show presented contemporary art not as a fixed category but as a living, constantly shifting field, open to independent voices and unexpected connections.
