Your education: After getting my high school diploma, I decided to completely devote myself to my passion. That is how my artistic training path in Palermo’s Fine Arts Academy began. There I attended the three-year and two-year courses in Fashion Design, in which I obtained my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees
Describe your art in three words: Bold. Joyful. Authentic. Bold, because my creations are designed to stand out. Joyful, because colors and positivity are the core qualities of the Brand. Authentic, because every piece reflects my Sicilian inspiration, Italian craftsmanship and my creative vision
Your discipline: I am a very ambitious person who is always striving for higher goals, and I truly believe that perseverance is the key to success. I trust in my vision, my abilities and my potential, knowing that meaningful achievements take time. Sooner or later, dedication is always rewarded.

GIOA bags immediately attract attention with their bold colors and distinctive shapes. What role does color play in your creative vision?
Color plays a central role in Gioa’s creative vision. It has the power to evoke emotions, express personality and transform an accessory into a statement piece. Our vibrant palettes are inspired by nature and my homeland, Sicily. They are carefully selected to bring joy, energy and confidence to everyday life. Rather than following short-lived trends, I create timeless color combinations that reflect our Brand’s identity and celebrate individuality.

Each bag feels very expressive, almost like a small art object. How do you balance functionality with a strong visual identity?
Functionality and visual identity are equally important to me. Every GIOA® bag is created to be visually distinctive while meeting the everyday needs of modern women. I carefully consider proportions, materials and details so that each design is both expressive and practical.
Handmade production is an important part of your brand. Why is it essential for you to preserve craftsmanship in your work?
Handcrafted production preserves the value of traditional Italian craftsmanship while promoting a more responsible way of creating. Making products by hand is a slower process but it allows us to pay close attention to every detail and ensure the highest quality. It is also an important choice from an environmental perspective. By producing in small quantities and focusing on craftsmanship rather than mass production we help reduce waste and encourage a more sustainable approach to fashion. It is a core value of the Brand.

Many of your designs are inspired by nature – flowers, insects, wings, and organic forms. What draws you to these motifs?
Nature has always been my greatest source of inspiration. Many of my designs begin with a real encounter (a butterfly, a dragonfly, a scarab) or another small detail that unexpectedly captures my attention. It is almost as if nature is inviting me to explore new ideas and express my creativity. The aim is to discover how deep the connection between art and nature is.

How long does it usually take to create one handmade bag, from the first idea to the final piece?
The time required to create a handmade bag can vary. Some designs come to life within a few months, while others take much longer. Often, an idea begins long before the actual production starts. Once the right moment comes, I move into production, always taking the time needed to ensure every piece meets the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship. A creative journey is a process of inspiration, patience, and dedication.

What part of the handmade process is the most important or emotionally meaningful for you?
The most meaningful part of the process for me is the very beginning: the research and design phase. This is the moment when an idea starts to take shape, moving from my imagination into a project. I love seeing a concept gradually become clearer, with every sketch and detail bringing it closer to reality. Then watching a project come to life through skilled craftsmanship is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
